Diets Rich in Fruits and Nuts May Prevent Allergies and Asthma

A diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts, referred to as a Mediterranean diet, appears to reduce the risk of developing allergies and asthma in children. A recent study of 690 children on the Island of Crete showed a significant reduction in the incidence of wheezing and hay fever when a Mediterranean diet was followed. Conversely, a diet rich in margarine significantly increased the incidence of both wheezing and hay fever symptoms.
