Eczema: The Itch, That When Scratched, Rashes

Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is not a rash that itches. Rather, symptoms start out as itching of the skin. When the area of skin is scratched long enough, a rash forms. It is for this reason that the location of eczema is dependent on the age of a person suffering from it.

Atopic dermatitis is frequently the first sign of allergies in infants and young children. Triggers may include pollens, pet dander, dust mites and food allergies. People with eczema are more prone to skin infections from various sources, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.
