Treating Allergies: What are the Options?

Tuesday August 28, 2007
The first step in the treatment of allergies is identifying what you're allergic to. This is typically accomplished through skin testing. Once your triggers are known, there are essentially three ways of treating the symptoms: Avoidance, medication and allergy shots.

First, is the avoidance of allergens. If you can successfully avoid what you are allergic to, then you can prevent allergy symptoms in an inexpensive manner without side effects. However, avoiding your triggers may be easier said than done.

Second, medications can be used to treat allergy symptoms. While most people feel better with medications, these have side effects, are expensive, need to be taken in order to work, and have no long-lasting benefit.

Lastly, allergy shots can be used to treat allergy symptoms. Allergy shots are the only therapy that can actually fix the underlying problem of allergies and potentially cure the symptoms.

Last year I got married & not only did I gain a husband, but I gained his black lab, Sham. Not even a month after we were married I was having a severe allergic reaction to Sham. My husband was devastated at the thought of having to get rid of Sham whom he’d had for years. That is when my mother- in- law saw an ad in the newspaper for the Pionair Air Unit. She purchased the unit for us and I can happily say that I have not had a problem with my allergies since plus we got to keep Sham. You can find this air unit at http://www.pionair.net
