I've Got a Rash -- I Must be Allergic to Something!

Many people will experience an itchy rash at some point during their lives...and often their first thought is, "I must be allergic to something!" Undoubtedly, their next thoughts are about a different soap, detergent, medication, vitamin, pet, or cosmetic that must've caused the rash. The person will then goes through a series of experiments, stopping the use of the new items - and on occasion, the rash goes away. But more often than not, the rash persists.

This is about the time the person sees their doctor for help. The following articles outline my approach to the patient who comes into my clinic with an "allergic rash":
