Shellfish allergy seems to be the most confusing of all food allergies. Many people with this kind of food allergy aren't sure what they can eat, what they should avoid, and if this food allergy places them at risk for certain medication allergies. A long-held myth regarding shellfish allergy is that those with this food allergy are also allergic to IV dye.
Most people with an allergy to one type of shellfish are at high risk of being allergic to another type of shellfish. It appears that people with shellfish allergy are not at increased risk of developing an allergy to IV dye, and vice versa. There may be some concern, however, that people with shellfish allergy are at risk for allergic reactions as a result of taking glucosamine.
