Got the Winter Itch?

Many allergic skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, can get much worse in the wintertime. Most people love taking extremely hot showers when it's cold outdoors, which tends to dry out the skin. In addition, when the air is cold and dry outside, and warm and dry inside, the skin tends to lose moisture through evaporation into the air. Dryness worsens eczema, and even people without underlying skin conditions find themselves with dry, itchy skin. Find out more about allergic skin conditions and how to avoid the winter itch:

The only remedy which helps us for generalized itchy skin (i.e. no eruptions or other noticeable marks) is Zyrtec 10 mg, now available as a generic. We have been taking it since it was first marketed many years ago and does a good job of controlling s many (but not all) of our allegy symptoms, such as runny nose, itchy eyes, swollen sinuses, etc. We experienced pronounced drowsiness for the first 2-3 days when we start or restart it but that does diminish.

There are milder meds such as Claritin but it never worked for us. You need to try one medication at a time, under the supervision of your doctor. Try to avoid multiple ingredient preparations.
