Zyrtec is Now Available Without a Prescription!

Saturday January 26, 2008
Just in time for spring allergies, Zyrtec (cetirizine) is now available over-the-counter (OTC) without a prescription! Zyrtec is a powerful, low-sedating antihistamine indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria (hives). OTC Zyrtec is available in pill form, chewable tablets and syrup, and is indicated for children as young as 2 years of age. Zyrtec joins Claritin (loratadine, also marketed as Alavert and multiple generic forms) as the only low-/non-sedating antihistamines available OTC without a prescription.

It just got a lot easier to deal with those bothersome hay fever and hives symptoms, but don't let the availability of these medications prevent you from seeing your doctor if your symptoms of allergies or hives persist or are severe. This could indicate a more serious disease process that requires medical attention.
