Follow me on:

Allergies are becoming more and more common in children. For example, allergic rhinitis is extremely common in children, and is far more than just a runny nose. I have to stress that allergies and asthma in children do affect mental health. Irritability, stress, excitability, loss of control of your health, not enough oxygen that affects your brain as well as other areas of your body, and fear. These also affect adults, but children don’t know about coping mechanisms, so I think therapists are VERY important. I think alot of parents don’t know how to cope with children with allergies and all that it brings. They need to be educated as well. I am the one that had and still have allergies and asthma which has affected me all my life. I was a child in the 50’s and 60’s, so there weren’t any places to go for help except the Dr. There weren’t any therapists then. How I wish that there was! My parents did the best they could, but they needed help, and it just wasn’t there. They were intelligent people and would have benefited from this. Ergo, so would I have benefited. Thank you for letting me express my views.
