Most patients with nasal allergies also suffer from symptoms of eye allergies. It has been previously shown that medications for nasal allergies, such as oral antihistamines and nasal corticosteroid sprays, are helpful in the treatment of eye allergies. A recent study showed something even more surprising -- that the use of a allergy eye drop may be helpful for the treatment of nasal allergy symptoms.
Bepreve (bepotastine besilate) eye drops were not only able to treat symptoms of eye allergies, but were also able to treat various symptoms of nasal allergies, including nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy nose and itchy ears and mouth. It is likely that the connection between the eyes and nose may be more important than we had previously realized, and this new study opens up the possibility of additional topical therapies for nasal and eye allergies without the systemic side effects of oral medications.
