Millions of mothers received flowers for Mother's Day, and no doubt many of these moms suffer from nasal allergies. But along with smiles, these fragrant flowers might bring an unwanted gift -- worsening nasal allergy symptoms. Flowers may be a trigger for nasal allergy symptoms, especially when they're particularly fragrant. While colorful flowers aren't normally a major cause of allergy symptoms, since insects are responsible for their cross-pollination (rather than wind, for non-colorful plants), allergy symptoms can occur if you're sticking your nose into the flower. Alternatively, the strong perfume smell of flowers can trigger an irritation in the nose that mimics allergy symptoms. Either way, mom might spend her special day with a handful of nasal tissues and a runny nose -- but at least she'll have a smile on her face while looking at those beautiful flowers.
