Safety of Allergy Shots Reaffirmed

A recent review of 51 medical studies on allergy shots confirms that this therapy is safe and effective for allergic rhinitis. The review, performed by Dr. Calderon of Royal Brompton Hospital in London, involved nearly 3,000 patients, and showed few serious side effects.

Allergy shots involves a series of injections of purified extracts to which a person is allergic. The body's immune system treats the allergy shots like a vaccine, and the allergic response to the trigger is decreased. The benefits of allergy shots can last for years even after the treatments have been stopped.

Find out more about how allergy shots can treat allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis and asthma.
