Definition: Debridement is the surgical removal of dead tissue from a wound and a treatment for dead tissue within the body. The procedure may prevent the death of additional tissue and assist in the healing of any partially damaged surrounding tissue.
Examples:
Debridement of a spider bite wound may be a required treatment in severe cases.
