Definition: High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, which removes particles in the air by forcing it through screens containing microscopic pores. Is helpful in removing pollens, mold spores and animal dander from the air. Vacuum cleaners equipped with HEPA filters are helpful in removing dust, pet hair and dust mite particles from floors and carpeting.
