Definition: A form of traditional Chinese medicine and used for many chronic diseases, including allergic rhinitis and asthma. This treatment involves inserting needles into the skin at exact points on the body, which is supposed to restore the balance of "vital flows," inhibit an overactive immune system, and result in anti-inflammatory effects on the body. However, most studies show no benefit for the treatment of allegies and asthma when compared to placebo.
