Definition: Asthma is a chronic, inflammatory lung disease characterized by recurrent breathing problems. People with asthma have immediate symptoms as a result of muscle spasms in the lungs, resulting in wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. Asthma can be triggered by allergens, infections, exercise, cold air and stress.
