How my mosquito allergy affected me

I went to Rome during August of 2009. I stayed in a hostel and there was a lone mosquito that bit me in my hands, feet, and thigh. I swelled up like crazy and it was painful. I felt like my skin was stretching out. Even a slight touch would hurt and my my bites itch like crazy.

What I did to overcome it

I noticed pharmacy signs everywhere and quickly taught myself how to say "mosquito bites" in Italian (Puntara zanzara I think it was). I later found out most pharmacists are fluent in English and she gave me a topical cream for the swelling and itching. I was supposed to stay out of the sun so I didn't get to enjoy Rome very much during the day. I hate mosquitos.

Lessons Learned

  • Travel with anti histamines at all times and or a steroid like Cortizone for itch relief.
