Antihistamines are commonly used medications for the treatment of various allergic conditions. They can cause a wide variety of side effects, especially with the older, sedating antihistamines such as Benadryl and Atarax.
Not only can antihistamines cause drowsiness, they can cause constipation, urinary retention and dry mouth. A person can even be charged with a DUI if an automobile accident is deemed to be their fault while taking a sedating antihistamine.
